Colm's avatar …And the survey says! - Wii Don’t Fit
Posted by Colm @ 8:21pm on 5th July 2008 GMT

A survey was recently carried out to see if Wii Fit owners in Japan stick with their daily regime. The survey showed that a staggering amount of Wii Fit owners had put the game down, which is bad news for the game overall. With over half of the respondents (64%) indicating that Wii Fit started to gather dust after purchase, the survey seems to substantiate studies which show that people who sign up to health clubs overestimate how much time they will really dedicate in exercising. In this case, it seems to also hold true for Wii Fit.

No doubt, there will be a plentiful supply of used Wii Fit games flooding the market if this trend keeps up. If you are interested in buying this game, it might make sense to buy it at the used- discounted rate...that is, if you really plan to use it regularly.

Peter's avatar Goldeneye runs on the Homebrew Channel
Posted by Peter @ 3:40pm on 5th July 2008 GMT

Someone has finally managed to get Goldeneye 007 working on the Wii via the Homebrew channel and has produced a ten minute video of the game in action. As you will see it’s not quite perfect just yet since there’s a bit of slow down here and there, but overall it’s pretty good and shows a huge leap forward from what was being achieved in the homebrew scene this time last year.

This is also excellent for anyone who was desperately hoping for Goldeneye to appear on the Virtual Console. If you were following the news earlier this year you’d know about an updated version of Goldeneye that would have been released on the Xbox 360’s Live service. However, Nintendo put a prompt stop to that and in turn spited themselves.

Colm's avatar “I had to cut playable characters from Brawl”
Posted by Colm @ 6:01pm on 2nd July 2008 GMT

Masahiro Sakurai, the developer of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, has admitted to ONM that he had to cut out a lot of characters from Super Smash Bros. Brawl. During an interview with ONM Sakurai said ”It’s taken over three years to make Brawl but I actually stopped trying to include new ideas early on in development. What happened in the next year and a half was that we distilled the game down, worked out which ideas we had time to include and which we didn’t. Sadly, we had to trim out many great concepts just to keep within the time contraints. I had a lot more characters, for example.. but sadly I can’t discuss which ones didn’t make it.”
However, Sakurai said he wouldn’t just create another game to use up these characters. ”There are 39 characters in the game this time around and just adding a few more wouldn’t be enough to justify a new game in my opinion; I’d have to draw a line in the sand and have a new approach to make it worthwhile. As long as the fans enjoy it, though, that’s what matters and in the distant future, I guess that might be something I have to consider.

Well it’s good to know that Brawl still has some small tricks up it’s selves but I’ve gotten quite curious to know what these characters are.

Colm's avatar Chrono Trigger heading to the DS?
Posted by Colm @ 5:25pm on 2nd July 2008 GMT

Square Enix have recently released a promo style website which features a large ticking clock, Chrono Trigger DS anyone? The idea of the game has popped up in many gaming forums and maybe Square Enix thought that there was some money to be made here so it looks like the SNES God-like classic is heading to the DS. JUMP magazine has received information on the game and claims that it will be an enhanced remake of the original. More details will be available on July 7th through both of Square-Enix’s Japanese and North American teaser sites, when those giant clocks are due to stop ticking. The game is slated for a Winter ‘08 release.

Peter's avatar Hello, my name is Peter…
Posted by Peter @ 4:39pm on 30th June 2008 GMT

With the exception of PC gaming and receiving a Sega Game Gear for Christmas back in 1993 I have always been solely a Nintendo Gamer. I have only every bought Nintendo’s consoles and handhelds though I will admit that I have flirted with the idea of purchasing a rival machine on several occasions in the past ten years. Now, in a few weeks, I will be taking a plunge into the unknown when I finally buy an Xbox 360!

Why buy a rival machine now?

For a number of reasons:

1. Because it’s the perfect generation to do so, it’s the first generation in quite a while where all the machines aren’t essentially the same. In buying the Wii it means I can enjoy the exclusive titles on that and then take my pick between the Xbox 360 and Playstation for other games that would never see the light of day on the Wii.

Michael's avatar [Review] Dragon Ball Z : Burst Limit
Posted by Michael @ 9:46pm on 14th June 2008 GMT

20 years. It’s been almost 20 years since the Dragon Ball Z anime first aired. It’s hard to believe, I know. In those 20 years it has become a phenomenon, and most probably the most popular manga and anime series around. So, with a phenomenon comes lots of merchandise. From T-shirts to action figures. And of course Video Games. And Dragon Ball Z has had many games. From the NES to the Arcade. The majority of these games are fighters. Some good, some not so good. And the latest game in the series is also a fighter, on the PS3 and XBOX 360 under the name Dragon Ball Z Burst limit. But will it be a leap forward in the series for the next generation?

Peter's avatar TF2: Ears will bleed!

How could you possibly make Team Fortress 2 any better? Well, that’s easy, get your players to take part in a random karaoke session coughed up by the server. Yes! While you’re trying to capture the intelligence the server will play a song (in this case: Celine Dion - My Heart Will Go On) with the lyrics appearing on the screen so you can sing along.

It really has to be seen to be believed. Click through to view the video!
