I could sum this game up in three words. But that wouldn’t make much of a review now would it? Well for all you ignorant people who haven’t heard of the game or haven’t brought a copy the game revolves around a man called Phoenix wrights, who is a defence attorney/ CSI. And I’ll try not to make any Phoenix Wrights jokes
The first case is a pretty simple tutorial case, which will simply guide you into the game holding your hand. You’ll get hints and tips from a men who is your boss . The first case is a bit of a cheapy really this is because you don’t do any investigation, it starts with you in the court room defending your client with all the evidence you’ll need to prove him innocent. Once you’ve finished the case a new one becomes unlock able. However Phoenix Wrights 3 sets place in two different time era. Mia fey’s (6 years ago) and Phoenix Wrights (Modern day)
The second case is back to normal playing with good old feenie (bugger that‘s one). This is basically a point and click adventure. You select the area of the room you want to look at, and groom it for evidence all of this is done via the stylus. In fact the whole game is done via the stylus. Which is really unique and gives you an wider area. The stylus feels brilliant, it always works perfectly, which is one of the game amazing features.
But the game’s biggest selling features is the script. The whole script feels so thought out and genuinely thought provoking. The crimes are always ingeniously thought out, some of the cases have you guessing down to the last 10 minutes. In my honest opinion this is the best script in a game ever. It has so many genuine laughs and sad moments in it, you will soon begin to lose yourself in it‘s magical world.
Within the game they’re 5 cases. The first case taking about an hour . This is the only part of the game that left me feeling raw. There is 5 cases and one of them isn’t even a whole case. Its not good for a game like that to have such a small introduction even if it is brilliant. But the next three cases 2nd to 4th are utterly stunning, and the 5th made my jaw hit the floor. A normal case takes about 4 - 5 hours to complete. But the 5th case throws something new into the mix.
The first 4 cases all you noobs out there can understand with relative ease no veteran links to throw you completely off course. But the 5th case is basically designed for veterans, linking Phoenix wrights 1 and Maya fey’s past nicely together. This however can be taken both ways. For people who have been playing the game from the first this is one of the best gaming moments you’ll have in a very long time. But if you’re a noob to the series you’ll understand what’s going on but you won’t get the full experience but it’ll still be an experience.
The investigating itself is done like I mentioned before using the stylus to comb crime scenes for evidence. But it’s also spent talking to the suspected and talking to people who are related to the crime. If you absolutely hate lots of reading you’ll detest phoenix wrights. The music itself is nothing to behold. It’s kind of tinny if I’m honest. But it does the job and some of the tunes I’ve caught myself humming to myself.
The character design is equally wacky and complete out there as the game is. With characters like a wise ass prosecutor with funky goggles, to a women who whips you. This is odd however because the game is so serious and the characters and the script is so out there they work together in harmony.
Final Verdict
I love this trilogy to bloody bits. I’ve cried laughing and had a lump in my throat at the end of the game. This is more than I could of asked for, for a game and stands out to me as one of the best games ever made.
